It Starts

As with anything, avid interest in starting a new activity wanes with time. This outlet will hopefully not fall victim to that eventuality, as did my livejournal years ago. Then again, this is a different age, and I no longer plan to rant without purpose or eloquence. Also, I'm looking forward to the amusement of seeing the little red misspelling lines under the British spellings I use, such as favour and colour. *is amused already*
I have plans that will probably not take off, like posting the theses that enter my head late at night or when I'm at the grocery store.... late at night. My arguments are hard to validate, as thoughts tend to spin off on tangents and I lose the core of each thesis.
Instead, I will most likely be posting things that I find interesting or irritating in day-to-day life (already my thoughts want to leave this and start rambling). These will come from trips to Frick Park, my workplace, honing my gardening skills, and the various books I indulge in. Perhaps I'll get to the bottom of things a little better if I develop and edit my thoughts into cohesive texts.

For starters:
We went to Frick park on August 22nd and, while the fungi and reptile sightings were in a lull, the cicadas made themselves very prevalent. I'd post the multitude of pictures, but I don't plan on letting this go down the slippery slope into picture blog territory. I'll just share the bare minimum of photos. We found not only the shed exoskeletons of the cicadas but also an in-shell one climbing a tree, one that had latched itself in a safe spot and had just begun emerging, but also this

which might possibly be the most amazing thing I've seen on the hikes so far. It's a shame we had plans for the evening or I'd have stayed and watched the rest of the process.
